Meet Our Charlotte Crown Dentists
Dr. Micheal and Dr. Kelly Wilson are a husband-and-wife team trained in same-day crown technology and active members of Spear Education, where they continually advance their skills in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Micheal Wilson
Dr. Micheal earned his DDS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and brings six years of oral surgery experience to his restorative work. That surgical background matters for crown patients with complex cases, including teeth that need extraction and replacement, post-root-canal restorations, or implant-supported crowns where placement and fit have to be exact.
Dr. Kelly Wilson
Dr. Kelly earned her DDS from UNC Chapel Hill and has over 15 years of experience in cosmetic and comprehensive care. She leads many of the practice's anterior crown cases, where shape, shade, and translucency are critical to a natural cosmetic result, and pairs crown work with airway-forward planning when the bite or jaw is part of the picture.

The CEREC Same-Day
Crown Experience
CEREC has been the industry leader in dental cad/cam technology for over 30 years, and it changes the crown experience from start to finish.
How the visit works
After we numb the tooth and remove any decay, a small wand with a camera captures a 3D digital image. No goopy impression material, no temporary crown, no waiting weeks for the lab.
Designed on screen, milled in minutes
Dr. Micheal or Dr. Kelly designs your crown on the computer, then a CEREC milling unit in our office sculpts it from a solid ceramic block in as little as six minutes.
Painted, polished, placed
Your dentist hand-paints the crown to match the color of your other teeth, then permanently cements it and adjusts your bite. You walk out the same day with a finished restoration.

“I had a great experience having a crown done by Dr. Micheal! The procedure was totally painless and done in just one visit. His assistant, Lynne, was fabulous and so nice to chat with during any downtime. The hygienists, front office staff, and Dr. Kelly are also wonderful. Great office environment and team. I would recommend them to all of my family and friends!” — Carly, 5-Star Review
Why You Might Need a Crown
Crowns aren't usually elective. People typically come to see us because something has changed, and we want you to recognize the signs early so we can save the tooth before it becomes a bigger problem.
- A cracked or fractured tooth that hurts when you bite or chew
- A large filling that's failing, leaking, or has weakened the surrounding tooth
- A root canal that needs a permanent restoration to seal and protect the tooth
- Severe wear from grinding, clenching, or acid erosion
- An old crown that has chipped, loosened, or developed a dark gum line
- A discolored or misshapen tooth that doesn't respond to whitening or bonding
If any of those sound familiar, a consultation with a cosmetic dentist in Charlotte, NC, is the right next step. We'll take a look, talk through your options, and help you understand what's actually going on with the tooth before recommending treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a same-day crown take?
Most CEREC crown appointments take about two hours from start to finish, including numbing, prep, scanning, design, milling, color matching, and final cementation. You leave with the permanent crown the same day.
Are same-day crowns as strong as traditional lab crowns?
Yes. CEREC ceramic crowns are strong, durable, and metal-free. With proper care, they can last for decades and often outlast older PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) crowns.
Will my crown match the rest of my teeth?
That's the goal. Dr. Micheal or Dr. Kelly hand-paints your crown to match the natural shade gradient of your surrounding teeth before it's placed, so the finished result blends in seamlessly.
What if I grind my teeth?
We'll talk about that during your consultation. For patients with bruxism, we may recommend a stronger material like zirconia and a custom nightguard to protect the new crown and the rest of your teeth.
How do I take care of a new crown?
Brush and floss like you would your natural teeth, keep up with regular cleanings, and avoid using your teeth as tools (no opening packages, no chewing ice). Cared for well, a CEREC crown can last decades.
